# Google AI Mode

AI Mode is Google's conversational search tab that answers the whole query with a generated response and follow-up questions, instead of a results list.

Unlike an AI Overview, which sits above the classic results, AI Mode replaces them. It issues several searches behind the scenes (query fan-out), reads the results and writes an answer with citations, much like ChatGPT with search enabled.

Because it fans out into sub-queries, a page can be cited for a question it never targeted directly, if it answers one of the sub-questions well.

AI Mode is tracked the same way as other answer engines: run the prompt, record mentions and citations, repeat daily.
