# Position in answer

Position in answer is where a brand appears within an AI answer that mentions it: first, among the first few, or later.

It is the closest thing to a rank in AI search. Users read the first recommendation most, and engines often list brands in an order that reflects how strongly they associate the brand with the question.

Trackers record position per mention, so a brand can see that it is mentioned in 60% of answers but first in only 10%, which is a different problem from not being mentioned.
