# Google AI Overviews Tracker

AI Overviews sit above the organic results for a growing share of searches. Know for which of your prompts an overview appears, whether you are in it, and which pages it links to.

## How Google AI Overviews answers and cites

For many informational and comparison queries, Google generates a summary at the top of the results page from pages in its index and shows the sources as link cards. The overview can cite pages that do not rank first organically.

Eligibility follows ordinary Google indexing: Googlebot must be allowed. Google-Extended has no effect on AI Overviews.

## How LeapScope tracks Google AI Overviews

Each prompt is run as a Google search from the selected country and device, with the AI Overview loaded. The tracker records whether an overview appeared, its text, its cited links, and the organic results on the same page.

Mentions, positions, sentiment and competitor mentions are extracted from the overview text; the organic results feed rank tracking for the same query.

## What is recorded for every prompt

- **Overview shown**: Whether Google generated one
- **Mention**: Whether the brand appears in it
- **Citations**: Link cards attached to the overview
- **Organic results**: The results below, for rank tracking
- **Competitors**: The same for each named competitor
- **History**: One data point per prompt per day

## Limitations

- Whether an overview appears varies by country, device and query; a prompt can show one on desktop and not on mobile.
- Google AI Mode, the conversational tab, is a separate surface and is tracked separately where available.

### How do I get my page cited in an AI Overview?

Be indexed and allowed for Googlebot, answer the question directly near the top of the page with clear headings, and cover the sub-questions the overview tends to include. Pages cited in overviews are often not the top organic result.

### Does an AI Overview reduce my organic traffic?

For queries where it appears, often yes, because it answers before users scroll. Being cited in the overview is the way to keep a presence on those queries.

### Can I track AI Overviews by country and device?

Yes. Prompts are run from the countries you select, on desktop or mobile, and the result records whether an overview appeared for that combination.

### Does Google-Extended affect AI Overviews?

No. AI Overviews use Google's normal index. Only Googlebot access matters.

### Are the organic results recorded too?

Yes. The same results page feeds rank tracking, so the AI Overview and the organic positions for a query are reported side by side.
