Google AI Overviews

AI Overviews are the AI-written summaries Google shows at the top of some search results, with links to the pages the summary drew on.

They appear for a growing share of queries, especially informational and comparison questions, and push the classic organic results further down the page. The summary cites sources as link cards, so a page can be cited in the overview without ranking first organically.

AI Overviews are built from Google's normal index, so the crawler that matters is Googlebot; blocking Google-Extended does not remove a site from them. Eligibility follows ordinary Google indexing rules.

Tracking means checking, for each prompt, whether an overview appears, whether the brand is mentioned in it, and which pages it cites. That is one of the surfaces an AI visibility tracker records.
