Answer-first content

Answer-first content states the direct answer to a question in the first sentences of a page or section, before context and detail.

Also called BLUF (bottom line up front). Answer engines quote passages, and a passage that opens with the answer is the easiest to quote accurately. Pages that bury the answer under an introduction are retrieved but rarely cited.

In practice: a one-sentence definition under each question-style heading, then the explanation, then supporting detail, lists and tables.
